What we do
The Trust is run entirely by volunteers and exists to preserve Thames Barges and pass on the traditions and skills of maintaining and sailing them. Any member of the public can come sailing on our Barges, volunteer to help with our ongoing preservation projects or with running the Trust, or become a member.
Our Barges
We own and sail two Thames Sailing Barges: 'Centaur', built by Canns in Harwich in 1895 and 'Pudge', built in Rochester in 1922. They were originally used to carry a huge variety of cargo around the coasts and rivers in Eastern and Southern England. Find out more about Barges.
TSBT History
The Trust was previously a private members' club formed in 1948 and now celebrating it's 60th Anniversary. The club transformed itself into a Charitable Trust in 2003 and continues to be run by volunteers. Find out more about our history and some of the people involved in our Archive pages.
