Pin Mill Match Report 2014
Well well well . . . Centaur wins first place for the second time this season!
What a lovely day the Pin Mill match turned out to be. The drizzle and the odd passing squall weren’t enough to dampen the spirits of Centaur’s enthusiastic crew.
In Class C (Staysails), although Ardwina and Cygnet passed the start line nearly five minutes before Centaur, they were both over the line early and were therefore hit with a 30-minute time penalty. This meant that Centaur won cups for: first over line, first round the outer mark (Stour Number One buoy), and first home – even though she arrived 28 minutes after Ardwina. So three more cups to add to our growing collection!
Her new bottom is clearly helping her perform much better in the matches. She will be racing again at the Swale Match, so why not book yourself a place aboard and join in the fun? See below for details of how to book.
In Class B the fast Staysails also had fun. Niagara & Melissa became disqualified for failing to pass marks correctly, leaving Repertor to take first place & Edith May second. Reminder had to retire due to a damaged vang chainplate at the start.
Marjorie and Adieu were to make up the class. Adieu, however, withdrew before the start and spent the day enjoying a more leisurely sail.
Also on the river were Victor, Kitty, Hydrogen & Thistle. This meant a total of 16 barges afloat together with May and Betula on the hard at Pin Mill.
The hospitality of the Pin Mill Sailing Club was very warmly received. The club’s team of super-efficient volunteers couldn’t have done any more for us. A huge thank you to them for hosting a wonderful event.
