Join us aboard Centaur for the 2017 Fambridge River Festival – 27th, 28th & 29th May
The Thames Sailing Barge Trust are offering a 3-day hands-on sailing trip aboard Thames Sailing Barge Centaur for just £140, including accommodation and all meals. No previous sailing experience necessary.
You can join us in Maldon, Essex on Friday evening and enjoy the delights of Hythe Quay.
Early on Saturday 27th May we will be leaving Maldon Quay and heading down the picturesque River Blackwater, passing Osea Island, the Radio Caroline lightship and the chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall – one of the oldest Christian churches in England.
We will head out to the Swin Spitway, an ancient trading route between the Gunfleet and Buxey Sands, and then enter the River Crouch, passing Burnham, until we come to the waterside village of North Fambridge, which will be hosting the Fambridge River Festival on Sunday 28 May.
Centaur will be joining a number of other heritage vessels, including Thames Sailing Barge Ironsides, for an action-packed day on and off the water. See lots of classic boats and watch traditional yacht racing.
Visit our friends at the Society For Sailing Barge Research and find out more about Thames Sailing Barge history. There will also be live music and village fête stalls.
Centaur will be open to the public on the Sunday and not sailing, so if you are part of the crew, there is no charge for you to stay aboard. If you are visiting the Festival, do come and see us.
We will be heading back to Maldon on Bank Holiday Monday, arriving at Maldon Quay in the late afternoon.
This promises to be a fun and action-packed long weekend and all for just £140 per person.
Don’t forget your camera and binoculars.
