Come sailing on an historic Thames Barge and enjoy the hidden delights of Suffolk and Essex.
Join Thames Sailing Barge Centaur in Ipswich Dock on Friday 19th of July, for an evening ashore getting to know your new shipmates.
On Saturday, we will make our way down the picturesque River Orwell. We will sail past the beautiful riverside hamlet of Pin Mill and on to the busy harbours of Harwich and Felixstowe, where you are likely to see some of the biggest container ships in the world.
Then, depending on weather, we may head south to discover the local ginger seal population in the Walton Backwaters or head north to the delightful river Deben.
On Sunday afternoon we will moor up in Harwich Town, where Centaur was built 123 years ago. Here we will have a run ashore and have the chance to explore the many hidden delights of this old historic seafaring town. Sunday evening will be spent in the Pier Hotel at Harwich, for a fine three-course meal, before returning to Ipswich on Monday afternoon.
This memorable long weekend is only £250.00, including all your meals.
You will sail with a qualified skipper and mate and have the opportunity to pull ropes and steer the barge under supervision. We encourage a team spirit on board so, as part of the crew, you will help with the cooking and keeping the barge ship-shape at all times. All food supplies are provided.
