This expedition sees SB Centaur making a one-way passage from Maldon to Ipswich 

Step back in time and retrace old east coast trading routes

The trip takes place on the weekend of 2/3 July and is suitable for solo travellers, couples and groups.

Whether you are an experienced sailor or have no previous sailing experience, you can get involved in all aspects of the sailing. You will receive instructions from our experienced crew who have worked with many people new to sailing a Thames Barge. Before we set sail, there will be a full safety briefing.

You will find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere on board for this hands on sailing adventure.

Traditional East Coast Sailing

You can board Centaur on the Friday evening at Maldon Quay and when the time is right we’ll head off down the River Blackwater.

Then you’ll sail alThames sailing barge Centaur Ipswichong the Essex Coast past Clacton and Walton-on-The-Naze until we reach the busy Ports of Felixstowe and Harwich.

From there Centaur will enter the picturesque River Orwell, passing Pin Mill and the historic Butt and Oyster pub, to finally moor alongside the old Custom House at Ipswich Dock.

Meals Included

CeSailing Barge Centaur Accommodationntaur has plenty of headroom below decks with berths grouped into cabin areas of 2 and 4 bunks.

There is a large dining table, which seats 14 crew and guests and a well-equipped galley for cooking and preparing meals.

All meals and non-alcoholic drinks whilst on board are included in this fantastically low price – cooked by you the crew. But hurry, because there is limited availability.

We may be able to assist you with transport back to Maldon from Ipswich.
